APTITUDE TESTS
Pilot aptitude tests: practise as if it were the day
Airlines and flight schools assess your aptitudes with computer-based test batteries. They vary from one recruiter to the next, but the test families stay the same. Prépa Cockpit recreates these families so you arrive on the day on familiar ground.
Attention
Cancellation
Spot and tap every cell matching the model, grid after grid, in 90 seconds.
Go / no-go reflexes
React to the green light as fast as you can, ignore the red one. 60 seconds.
Instrument reading
A 6-dial panel: read the requested value fast. 2 minutes.
Ring vigilance
A dot steps around a circle: react as soon as it skips a step. 2 minutes.
Circles and tone
Two coloured circles and a tone: react only to the required combination. 90 s.
Autopilot and warnings
Keep the autopilot matching the clearances while watching the warning lights. 2 minutes.
Memory
Digit span
Remember a growing string of digits, forwards then backwards.
Clearances
Read an ATC clearance for a few seconds, then recall level, heading, squawk, frequency…
FMS read-back
Memorise the flight data and their letters, then recall the one asked.
Visual memory
Memorise a grid of symbols, numbers and letters, then find the hidden cell.
Orientation
Mental rotation
Find the shape identical to the model, rotated but not flipped. 2 minutes.
Orientation
On the map, say where the landmark is as seen from the cockpit. 90 seconds.
Radar orientation
Follow a series of moves on a radar grid, sometimes rotated, and tap your final position.
Cube folding
A cube net: find the only cube it can fold into. 3 minutes.
Psychomotor
Tracking
Steer the aircraft between the scrolling pairs of dots. 90 seconds.
Coordination
Keep the needle and the ball centred, each on its axis, against the drift. 90 seconds.
Multitasking
Target tracking, mental arithmetic and warning lights at the same time. 2 minutes.
Reasoning
Code checking
Compare each code with its copy: same or different? 90 seconds.
Figure series
Find the figure that continues the series. 3 minutes.
Matrices
Complete the 3 × 3 grid by finding the row and column rules. 3 minutes.
Visual analogies
A is to B as C is to…? Apply the same transformation. 3 minutes.
Symbol addition
Each symbol has a value: add them up as fast as you can. 90 seconds.
Operators
Apply a chain of operators to a column of symbols and find the result. 3 minutes.
Three difficulty levels
- Easy: to discover the tests, with more time. Maximum score 50 out of 100.
- Medium: the pace of a typical selection. Maximum score 80 out of 100.
- Hard: faster and denser, to build a margin for the day. Maximum score 100 out of 100.
Your score is compared with other candidates', test by test, so you can see where you stand.
Frequently asked questions
Are the tests the same as the airlines' tests?
They aren't the official tests, which are confidential, but the same test families: attention, memory, orientation, psychomotor skills and reasoning, with similar instructions and pace.
Can I practise on a computer?
Yes. The tests work by touch on phones and tablets, and with keyboard and mouse on a computer.
How long should I practise?
A few short sessions a week over several weeks beat one long session the night before: you improve mainly through regular practice.
